Pigs Not Flying After All

Well, even if the whole Glenn Greenwald sock puppet incident comes to nothing, I can still feel comfortable that I'm on the right side of things. Who would ever want to be associated with the Left when the Left produces people like this, commenting about a soldier in Iraq whose wife, children, and sister-in-law were stabbed to death, and then their house set afire:
Maybe he signed up for the wrong profession because who in their right mind would want to be a army man? He should have studied harder in school and found a real job instead of joining the army. Lmao , be all u can be? Don't patronize me ! People who join the army either have no education or come from small towns.. He should blame himself for his family dying due to his lack of education.

I'm utterly speechless.

Comments:
I agree that comment is horrendous. There is absolutely nothing about progressive politics that should lead someone to insult members of the military. Being critical of the military's policies and the use of our military, certainly. But there is nothing about "the Left" that makes someone say awful things like this. Progressives believe it is a travesty that our wars are fought on the backs of the poor.

Just like Ann Coulter mocking 9/11 widows is not typical of conservatives, whomever wrote this comment (assuming it's even legit) is definitely not representative of liberals.

The comment was one of several such from among a multitude of comments that were not like this comment at all. When I followed the link, there were I think ten or twelve (just a guess) threads, some containing as few as two or three comments, and some as many as thirty or so. I did not read all the threads, and I think this particular comment was representative of only a small number of comments.

Perhaps what surprised me the most was that these threads were on AOL based on a news story on AOL. If someone had asked me to guess, I would have pegged it as a Daily Kos or Democratic Underground sort of thread.

I do not frequent those sites, so I can't say exactly how typical this comment would be of Kossacks or DUers, but usually when I see a comment like that, the link takes me to Kos or DU.

That was the origin of my comment about the Left producing people like this. I could have been more clear that this comment and others at the link do not necessarily represent all, or even most, of those on the Left.
